Project Proposal
Summary Nowadays, content is distributed through different kind of network models like client-server or peer-to-peer. There are performance problems with content distribution through peer-to-peer due to overhead. However there are applications that take advantage of this technology. Meanwhile client-server paradigm is better to distribute data from one source to many through multicast protocols that is the case of IPTV so I propose an hybrid solution based on OSW and my project of Scalable Mesh Nodes to make a network to have Internet access and VoIP and be able of distribute video and music. That would be a complete solution based on powerpc.
Background and previous development: There are some open source streaming software projects that could be used in this project like VLC or Icecast. I already tested with an x86 based server and with some services that I mentioned.
Objectives: Support Video on Demmand and streamming. Support QoS or traffic shaping. Performance tests in comparison with the actual implementation in x64 based server.
Components: OS Linux.
Hardware OSW ODW, PC\'s or portable devices. Routers
