Project Proposal
Once the processor(s) are physically attached to the NorthBridge, a \'tuning\' procedure must be accomplished that sets latency parameters on the EI bus such that both normal access as well as cache-coherency messaging work properly.
This tuning procedure is non trivial and the IBM documentation is wrong. There are simply too many variables to control without having some sort of knowledge about what each variable controls, as well as knowledge of the internal circuitry of the processors and bridge.
Every physical design (each new PCB) must go through this procedure. Even minor spins of the same PCB will sometimes require re-running this procedure.
Processors will not come out of reset until this procedure is accomplished correctly.
