Project Summary
The "(ls)^3" group is quite interested in using an small form factor design to build a simple and easy to deploy repeater/mixer for media streams. The Efika looks promising since the cpu power should be well dimensioned for the load and the motherboard size are quite interesting. Depending on the storage it could be even used portable media streamer but we are not sure yet about transcoding capabilites, but the option will be evaluated too.

The efika had landed in our lab and it is currently used to show feng scalability in constrained environments, that means that we fit our streaming server and some content and we try to access them and measure the cpu/memory load, so far we ended up topping the bandwidth before reaching the 100% cpu or swapping.

The possibility of use hardware mpeg2 acceleration could open new possibilities about on the fly transcoding/ live encoding depending on the interface available through the chip.
We are looking forward to have more informations about this option since would let us go one step further.
