Reggae on Pegasos
posted by Grzegorz Kraszewski on 24th March 2006
While I'm waiting for Efika hardware, Reggae project is not stopped. I've put the focus on DigiFilter (screenshot)- an application using Reggae, and used to test Reggae. It is a simple digital FIR filter designer with a possibility to play an audio file through any designed filter. Audio is demultiplexed, decoded, filtered and played with Reggae classes, of course with automatic format recognition and decoder selection. All in a stream, all realtime. Of course I cannot guarrantee realtime on Efika's 5200 (especially as it has no AltiVec) with extremely long filters, but some moderate ones like 256 taps, should go realtime on Efika with 44.1 kHz stereo. To give you some numbers, playing 44.1 kHz stereo file through a 2048-tap filter in the realtime takes up 4% of 7447 power (clocked at 1,0 GHz on Pegasos 2) including reading file from disk, decoding (WAVE PCM format) and playback. If anyone interested, DigiFilter can be downloaded from Aminet (use search for 'digifilter').
