Some new hardware for my Efika
posted by Grzegorz Kraszewski on 2nd April 2007

As I've somehow solved budget problems, today was the day of shopping. My MorphOS Efika is closer and closer. The first important thing is a power supply. I've bougth exactly the same 110 W ATX model as for server Efika. It is a cheap (7 euro including shipping!) one recycled from Siemens-Nixdorf PCs. I will throw a fan and case away and mount PCB only inside a portable small case. Without a fan this PSU should be able to deliver 30 watts without overheating. The second important component is a harddisk. I've decided to buy a brand new one (well, my precious data deserve this). I've choosen a 40GB Samsung MP0402H. It is 5400 rpm, but with 8 MB cache, and not expensive (buying 7200 rpm state-of-the-art one for Efika advanced IDE controller is senseless anyway). The third thing bought today is not needed for Efika build, but is needed to install MorphOS. It's just a 512 MB Kingston DataTraveller (6 euros, my God, I remeber buying 128 MB one for 90...). Then the only thing left is a gfx board, but for now I can borrow a R9200SE from my Peg2. Oh and I will also need an USB mouse...
