Reggae multimedia framework after a month
posted by Grzegorz Kraszewski on 28th March 2007
After a month of pause I'm back here. It was not a pause in Reggae development of course. Let's look back and see which features announced before have been implemented. soundloop.filter is basically done and tested with at least two applications. One feature request (forced loop exiting) still waits for implementation, but it is an one hour job. GIF support has not moved on unfortunately. In the meantime multimedia.class has been revised a bit, also other classes have got minor bugfixes. In a "Ph. D." branch of Reggae development I've done basic work with 32-bit audio processing (32-bit FIR filters), and designed API for a new sound processing class, named audiofrm.filter. It is a special kind of digital filters, known as Frequency Response Masking filters, with very interesting properties and many applications. I plan to optimize these filters on AltiVec.
The most important thing from users point of view is a third complete Reggae release, the Release C. It has been equipped with a simple installation script and is available from Reggae homepage and from Aminet (and will be available here as soon as binaries hosting will be available).
And what about Reggae on Efika? The only thing missing is... money. As my budget is very limited, I have to save some cash for HDD and gfx card. These are not very expensive components (low end Hitachi 40 GB drive and Radeon 9200SE, are what I'm going for), but anyway saving money for them is not that easy. I do my best however and expect to have Efika running MorphOS in a month or two.
