After months of being on standby, I have finally moved to the United Kingdom. I'm still unpacking but now that I know I'm not moving for the next few years, I can get back to work on my project.

Well for the obvious reason of the Pegasos 2 being discontinued, I am looking more towards the releasing the beta versions of SapphireOS for the Efika. The Efika version will have main priority. At this time the Pegasos 2 is my only development machine, but I feel the focus should be directed towards the future hardware like the Efika, and the Pegasos 3. I would like to do a Pegasos 3 version, but it depends on how much Sapphire OS matures. I currently work full time for the US ARMY and I attend IT classes with University of Phoenix, but I am hoping to get more done when I have my school break in December and get a release out afterwards.

There have been some questions about SapphireOS, so here goes.
I’m using sources from OpenGEM XM which is multi-tasking combined with FreeDOS-32, and EMUTOS. This is a 32-bit multi-tasking operating system.

  Sapphire OS
posted by Jonathan A. Smiley on 2nd May 2006

Progress is slow but alive. This month I've been reviewing sources for Emutos (an open source Tos clone), and want to try to work it into the system to run re-compiled classic Atari programs. I hope to combine the best elements of GemDos, Emutos, and OpenGem/XM. This would also make it possible to port PC Dos programs. After all Atari Tos is made up of PC GemDos and Gem. Since the system is made up with GEM, I decided to name the project Sapphire OS. The project name is subject to change (be there another system with that name).

This is not just an Efika project. The same work is being done on the Pegasos2. A decision was made to take this project back to the basics. We will start with an attempt to port GEMDOS and OpenGEM. From there we will work to improve the native OS itself.
