  The frame will become classical
posted by Ulrich Beckers on 14th May 2007

A lot of time has passed by and my progress was rather limited due to heavy work load at the university* and sports**. But here is a small update of the project:
The Efika is indeed very cool but also has its constraints. For the picure frame project the biggest issue is the thickness of the board.
The usb/network adapter is high in its dimensions. First I thought to resolder it, but because of the sandwich construction of the Efika + gfx card the height minimization would be mininal.
All in all I figured out, that the frame cannot not become thinner than 5 cm (good 2 inch), but more like 5.5cm or 6cm. The display plus light cathodes are about 15mm thick, the Efika minimum height is about 3.5 cm. That is not changeable without a rather big rework.
Thus I decided to go for a "classic" wall mount frame. Here it will be possible to conceil the thickness best. The overall dimensions will be about 32cm x 25cm x 5.5 cm (screen size: 21.4cm x 16.2 cm) and will follow a black/white design scheme: Black frame, white (to be precise: vanilla) passepartout, black screen. Only few resolder works on the gfx and screen are required.
I hope to show the design end of May/early June. It will be nice, but simple.
Well, what's MorphOS' slogan? "Discover the beauty of resource efficiency". It fits perfectly to the frame.
