Project Proposal
The High Density Blade is the perfect platform for a GRID based computing approach. This project would develop software which allows the HDB to be deployed in a GRID computing service. Compatibility with existing GRID services such as Sun GRID and IBM GRID will be ensured. Distributed computing applications such as PVM and MPI will be made available as well. Documentation-wise this project will produce a paper comparing speedup vs. power consumption. A tutorial on how to take advantage of Parallel computing will be made available as well on a website similar to freevec.org.
As an application of a GRID based service, this project plans on focussing on implementing a plan-execution engine for Gentoo Portage, allowing people to outsource building their operating system to a GRID.
